Themed HDB Playgrounds in Clementi, Singapore

Clementi has two of the newest themed estates in the west, and each built its play areas around a story. At Clementi NorthArc, beside the Ulu Pandan Park Connector, children climb through bee hives, sit inside a blue whale and drive a model of the old KTM train. A short drive south at West Coast ParkView, a purple octopus and a pirate ship fill one Clementi playground block, and Clementi Woods Park adds a shaded nature playgarden nearby.

What the Clementi Playground Cluster Is

Three Sites in One Town

The cluster sits in three places. Clementi NorthArc is a BTO estate in the north of the town along Clementi Avenue 6, with several separate playgrounds spread across its ground level and car park roof. West Coast ParkView is a newer estate at Block 801 West Coast Crescent. Clementi Woods Park is a 12 hectare NParks park along West Coast Road, next to West Coast Plaza.

History and Design

NorthArc’s six blocks and 1,179 flats were completed between December 2022 and March 2023, after pandemic delays, according to a report on the project’s handover. The same report mentions thematic playgrounds and an elevated landscape deck on top of the car park. Little Day Out notes that part of the estate sits on the route of the old Jurong railway line, which is the reason for the KTM train theme.

The West Coast ParkView playground was completed in 2024 for HDB, with ADDP Architects as architect and Carve as designer, according to the play equipment supplier Playpoint. Clementi Woods Park is older and wooded, and its nature playgarden was designed with input from preschoolers, according to Bykido.

How They Differ

The NorthArc playgrounds are small individual pieces with strong themes, so a visit feels like a trail from one to the next. West Coast ParkView is one large, bright playground with two linked zones. Clementi Woods Park offers the quietest setting, with tall trees and sand play in place of towers.

Play Structures at Each Clementi Playground

Bee Hive Playground, Block 210A NorthArc

The Bee Hive playground sits on the roof of the multi-storey car park at Block 210. Three linked hives in yellow and orange rise in steps, joined by netted tunnel bridges and climbed through vertical rope ladder tunnels. The tallest hive has cargo nets on several sides, and the floor carries a honeycomb pattern. A covered tube slide in brown and yellow runs from the middle hive with a slight kink. Four-seater garden swings and a basket swing are close by. A rope standing swing and a small toddler area complete the site.

Swing Garden, Block 210A

On the other side of Block 210A near Clementi Avenue 6, a small alcove tucked into the planting holds a basket swing and a standing swing. It is a calm corner for younger children.

Whale Playground and Red Climbing Net, Blocks 211 and 210C

The Whale playground is the most striking piece at NorthArc. The bright blue whale has googly eyes, hammocks inside its belly and ropes on its sides and tail, and children leave by a slide at its mouth. The red climbing net next to it has cargo net tunnels and five small pockets to crawl into. Little Day Out also lists a four-way springer and a spin cup here, along with sound tubes and two merry-go-rounds. Embedded trampolines and swings sit nearby.

KTM Train Playground, Block 209B

At B1 level of Block 209B Clementi Avenue 6, next to a preschool, a model diesel locomotive pulls a passenger carriage. Children can work the controls in the cab, sit in the coloured seats and leave by a slide at the rear. Bykido notes a “Singapore Line” nameplate and wheels with bogies, and Little Day Out describes a railway switch and cargo crates. Spring rockers and see-saws stand nearby. The train is built for younger children and is compact.

Blue Climbing Nets

A set of blue climbing nets with linked pods and netted tunnels overlooks the Ulu Pandan Park Connector. A tunnel runs through a mound, and a standing swing sits beside it.

Purple Octopus and Pirate Ship, West Coast ParkView

The West Coast ParkView playground at Block 801 West Coast Crescent has two zones. The older children’s side centres on a giant purple octopus whose tentacles carry climbing nets and slopes. Playpoint describes a climber membrane with a gripping texture and a crossover rope net bridge that leads to a tube slide. Nearby stand a “flyaway” balloon structure with rope climbing, a slip-slide platform, a large trampoline and an embedded merry-go-round.

The younger children’s side is a pirate ship with a lighthouse-style lookout tower, a slide, a hammock, cannons and a spyglass. Little Day Out also lists play mounds shaped like sea creatures.

Clementi Woods Park Playground and Nature Playgarden

Clementi Woods Park has a modest playground at its centre, described by Little Day Out as smaller than the one at West Coast Park, and Bykido notes a sand-based play area shaded by tall trees. The nature playgarden at the upper end of the park, near the amphitheatre and car park, uses log steps, log ladders and a water feature made from logs. A 4,000 square metre dog run and a woodball course are also in the park.

Is It Free?

Yes, every site is free. The HDB playgrounds are maintained by the town council, and Clementi Woods Park by NParks.

Clementi Woods Park Redevelopment

NParks began redevelopment works in part of Clementi Woods Park on 15 September 2025, with that phase expected to finish in June 2026. Its notice also states that one section will stay closed until March 2027, and the park page lists a further section closing from 5 September 2026. The notices do not say whether the playground or the nature playgarden is inside the closed areas, so check the NParks page or the signs before making a special trip.

Toilets, Shade and Drinking Water

Bykido places a washroom near the Clementi Woods Park amphitheatre. NorthArc has an eating house and a supermarket within the estate, which help with drinks and toilets. West Coast ParkView has limited shelter, and Bykido advises bringing umbrellas and sunscreen.

Age Suitability Across the Clementi Sites

Toddlers (1 to 3)

The KTM Train, the Swing Garden and the pirate ship side of West Coast ParkView suit toddlers best. The Bee Hive playground has a small toddler area, and the sand play at Clementi Woods Park is a good fit for this age.

Preschoolers (4 to 6)

Children of four to six can use the Whale playground, the lower hives and most of the pirate ship without help. The octopus nets and the trampoline at West Coast ParkView suit confident five and six year olds.

Primary School Children (7 to 12)

Older children head for the tallest hive, the red climbing net and the octopus rope bridge. None of these structures is as tall as the towers in Jurong West, so a ten year old may finish them quickly. The flying foxes at West Coast Park are a better challenge for this age.

Nearest MRT and Bus

Clementi MRT on the East West Line is about 14 minutes on foot from NorthArc, according to Home and Decor. The Ulu Pandan Park Connector runs past the estate, so families can also arrive by bicycle. For Clementi Woods Park, Bykido points to the bus stop on West Coast Road opposite Kent Ridge Secondary School. The nearest station to West Coast ParkView was not confirmed in the sources checked, so use a journey planner.

Parking
