Themed HDB Playgrounds in Woodleigh, Singapore

Free Woodleigh playgrounds in the new Bidadari estate: a hot air balloon climber, a netted playground at the hawker centre and the Woodleigh Hillside treehouse.

Bidadari is one of Singapore’s youngest HDB estates, with its first flats completed in 2019, and its Woodleigh playgrounds reflect that. They are new and compact, each has its own theme, and they sit within a short walk of Woodleigh MRT and the woodland of Bidadari Park.

This guide covers three free playgrounds in the Woodleigh part of the estate: a hot air balloon climbing frame at Woodleigh Village, a netted climbing playground by the hawker centre, and the Woodleigh Hillside treehouse and rope tower. Because the estate is so new, published detail is limited, and we say where we could not confirm a fact.

What the Woodleigh Playgrounds Are

The Woodleigh playgrounds are public HDB play areas in the Bidadari estate, which Wikipedia places within the Toa Payoh planning area. Mothership describes the estate as four districts: Woodleigh, Alkaff, Park Edge and Bartley Heights. The playgrounds in this guide are all in the Woodleigh district, close to the MRT station and the mall.

A New Estate Built Around a Park

HDB planned Bidadari with Bidadari Park at its centre, and the park opened in September 2024. The Woodleigh Mall opened in May 2023 and Woodleigh Bus Interchange in April 2025, according to Wikipedia. The estate playgrounds fill the gap between the park’s tall treehouse and the needs of families with toddlers.

How They Differ From the Park Playground

The Adventure Playwoods at Bidadari Park is a five-metre treehouse aimed at children of about seven to twelve. The estate playgrounds are smaller and include toddler zones, gentle slides and ground-level climbing. They suit shorter visits and younger children.

Who They Suit

They suit families living in Bidadari and Potong Pasir, and visitors to the hawker centre or mall who want a quick play stop. Families with a toddler and an older child can split a morning between an estate playground and the park.

Playgrounds in the Woodleigh Estate

Woodleigh Village Hot Air Balloon Playground

Sassy Mama describes a hot air balloon playground at Woodleigh Village, above Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre, and calls it newly opened. Children climb ropes and nets inside a giant balloon basket, and a tall slide leads down from the structure. Swings stand beside it, and a separate toddler zone has gentler slides. We could not confirm its block number or opening date.

Woodleigh Hawker Centre Tree-Wrapping Playground

A second playground stands at Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre, 201C Woodleigh Link. Sassy Mama describes a netted tunnel system that wraps around like spaghetti, which children crawl and climb through, and recommends it for ages five and up. The site also has a merry-go-round, a see-saw, a tube slide, monkey bars and a rope beam for balancing. Sassy Mama warns that shade is limited.

Woodleigh Hillside Playground

Woodleigh Hillside is at 212 Bidadari Park Drive, and Little Day Out notes that a car park sits under the playground. It has a rope climbing tower with a naturalistic look and small animal figures that children can hunt for in a game of I-spy. A treehouse playground suits younger children. Little Day Out describes the playgrounds here as small, with plenty for young children to do, and it suggests a nature scavenger hunt around the site.

Opening Hours, Entry and Facilities at the Woodleigh Estate

All three playgrounds are free public HDB facilities, open without booking.

Every playground in this guide is free. They are HDB estate facilities, so there is no gate, ticket or time slot.

Toilets, Shade and Drinking Water

We did not find a source that lists toilets at any of the three playgrounds. The Woodleigh Mall at 11 Bidadari Park Drive has toilets and nursing rooms, and the hawker centre is the other obvious stop. Sassy Mama recommends visiting the hawker centre playground in cooler hours because shade is limited.

Age Suitability Across the Woodleigh Playgrounds

Toddlers (1 to 3)

Toddlers are best served by the toddler zone at the hot air balloon playground and the treehouse at Woodleigh Hillside, which Little Day Out describes as fun for younger children. The swings also suit this age with an adult.

Ages 4 to 6

Children of four to six can use the balloon basket climb, the Hillside treehouse and the animal I-spy game. From five, they can try the netted tunnels at the hawker centre playground.

Ages 7 to 12

Older children get the most from the netted tunnels, monkey bars and rope beam at the hawker centre, and from the rope tower at Woodleigh Hillside. For a bigger challenge, the Bidadari Park treehouse is a short walk away.

Accessibility and Supervision

We could not confirm inclusive equipment at any of the three sites. The hawker centre playground sits in the town centre area near the MRT, which makes it the easiest to reach with a pram. Inside the netted tunnels, children can be hard to see, so adults should stand where the tunnel exits are visible.

Parking

Sassy Mama suggests parking at The Woodleigh Mall or the Block 201 HDB car park for the hawker centre playground. Little Day Out notes a car park directly under the Woodleigh Hillside playground. HDB car parks use electronic parking.

Best Time to Visit

Mornings before 10am and late afternoons are the most comfortable times, especially at the hawker centre playground, where Sassy Mama warns of limited shade. Hawker centre lunch hours bring more people through the area. Leave exposed structures when lightning is forecast.

What Parents Say About the Woodleigh Playgrounds

We did not find ratings or review counts for these playgrounds, and blog coverage is still light because the estate is new.

What Reviewers Praise

Sassy Mama highlights the balloon basket climb and the separate toddler zone, and it singles out the spaghetti-like netted tunnels as the standout feature at the hawker centre. Little Day Out likes the animal I-spy idea and the nature scavenger hunt at Woodleigh Hillside.

Common Complaints

The main caution in published coverage is limited shade at the hawker centre playground. Little Day Out also notes that the Woodleigh Hillside playgrounds are small, so they suit a short stop rather than a long session.

Verdict

The Woodleigh playgrounds make a good local circuit for younger children, especially when combined with a meal at the hawker centre and a walk in Bidadari Park.

Food and Rest Stops Near the Woodleigh Estate

These estate playgrounds have no BBQ pits or picnic lawns, and a family visit needs no permit. Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre sits right beside two of the playgrounds and is the natural lunch stop. The Woodleigh Mall has a food hall in Basement 1, air-conditioning and toilets, which helps on a hot day.

For a longer rest, Bidadari Park offers woodland paths and views of Alkaff Lake a few minutes away. Preschool groups should base themselves at the hawker centre and visit the playgrounds in small groups.

What to Bring and Rules at the Woodleigh Estate

  • Sunscreen and hats, as shade is limited at the hawker centre playground
  • Water bottles, since no drinking points are confirmed
  • Wet wipes for hands after the hawker centre and the playground
  • Insect repellent for Woodleigh Hillside and trips into Bidadari Park
  • Shoes with grip for nets and the rope tower
  • An umbrella for afternoon storms

Estate playground rules apply. Smoking is not allowed at playgrounds, bicycles and scooters should stay outside the play areas, and pets should be kept out of them. Children in the netted tunnels should climb one at a time through narrow sections.
